Smirnov, Ioannis Dokas, Lucas Dixon, Fiona McNeill Subject: Re: AI for Crisis Response Thank you again to those who attended the first virtual meeting on AI for crisis response, and to those who did their best to attend! I'm sorry that it did not work for everybody who tried to attend. Here is a quick summary and some ideas for next steps, as discussed. We all agreed that EU FP7 funding would be a good focus for this group. There are a number of currently open calls that we could target: Security: http://cordis.europa.eu/fp7/dc/index.cfm?fuseaction=UserSite.FP7DetailsCallPage&call_id=322 ICT: http://cordis.europa.eu/fp7/dc/index.cfm?fuseaction=UserSite.FP7DetailsCallPage&call_id=376 FET Open: http://cordis.europa.eu/fp7/dc/index.cfm?fuseaction=UserSite.FP7DetailsCallPage&call_id=319 Environment: ??? COST: http://www.cost.esf.org/ Of course, this covers a lot of areas and research topics, so one of the first steps could be to identify a couple of specific areas that would be suitable for us and where we see a realistic chance for submitting a proposal. Approaching the problem from the other end, it would be useful to know more about the research areas we are interested in, independent of FP7. So, to move things forward I will set up another doodle poll for a second meeting in SL in around two weeks' time. In the meantime, I will try to identify what seem to me to be likely target areas within the above calls, and start a discussion forum about these using the http://openvce.net website. I will then invite people, in advance of the next meeting, to add their own comments as well as any further suggestions for target areas. Then, during the meeting itself, we can hopefully decide on one or two areas in which to concentrate our efforts. Also, it would be good if everybody could prepare a few slides about their research interests for this meeting.
