KSCO-2012 Final Arrangements - Register and Book Your Hotel Now

A gentle reminder that the conference rates for the hotels are available until January 31st. Please reserve your room before that or you will risk the rate being higher.
 
We have conference rates available at two hotels: The Courtyard Marriott Pensacola Downtown and the Crowne Plaza Pensacola Grand Hotel. Directions for reserving a room, as well as some pros and cons for the two hotels are available on the KSCO web site: http://ksco.info/ksco-2012.html.
 
Likewise, if you have not registered for the conference, please do so. While there is no cut-off date for the registration, the sooner you register, the better we will be able to estimate the number of attendees and prepare for the conference. We also have two exciting social activities planned for the conference, a reception on Wednesday evening and the conference dinner on Thursday night.
 
Registration for the conference is available at: http://ksco2012.eventbrite.com/. Conference registration is only $100 ($50 if you are a student). You can pay either using a credit card or pay at the door via check or cash (select the pay at door option when you register). Please note that if you wish to use a credit card, you must register online -  we do not have any means to process your credit card onsite.
 
The preliminary program for the conference has been posted on the website. We have an exciting program this year, including some excellent keynote speakers and panels. Please note that the program is still in some flux, and we urge everyone to stay through Friday afternoon - as there is a very good possibility that the program will be extended through Friday afternoon. We are still awaiting confirmation for a keynote speaker and two additional speakers.
 
Also, as you plan your travel, keep in mind that the conference occurs just before the Mardi Gras celebration throughout the Gulf Coast. If you are *very* adventurous, you could try to go to New Orleans for the weekend (a three hour drive). But, many hotels have already sold out and those that are still available will be expensive.
 
While Pensacola is not New Orleans, we do have a Mardi Gras parade here in town on Saturday, February 18th. Here is a web site with some information: http://www.pensacolamardigras.com/. Please email me if you would like any specific information.
 
Also,  Pensacola is renowned for our Beaches. While the weather may be cold in February, you might find warm days to visit the beach (it was 72 degrees (F), 21 degrees (C) today!). Here is a website about our beaches: http://www.visitpensacolabeach.com/.
 
Unfortunately, Pensacola is not known for its public transportation! If you stay at one of the conference hotels, you will be within walking distance to IHMC (the conference location). You are also within walking distance to the downtown area (for example, to go to the parade). If you want to explore other areas, you will most likely have to rent a car or rely on taxis.

IEEE Intelligent Systems - KSCO Special Issue Call for Papers

Tthe call for KSCO papers for the high quality IEEE Intelligent Systems journal is now published at http://www.computer.org/portal/web/computingnow/iscfp1

Submissions are requested by 1st May 2012 and the papers selected will apperar in the January/February 2013 issue.

We will be discussing plans for this and potential contributions from the KSCO community on the last day of KSCO-2012.

KSCO-2012 Programme Available

Its all go now folks... the preliminary program for KSCO-2012 is available.. and what a great program Niranjan Suri and his colleagues at IHMC in Pensacola have put together.  You really don't want to miss this one.  It has the makings of the best KSCO to date. Three generals are lined up to give keynotes.  Some superb cross-programme panels will communicate what is happening across agencies and countries... which is one of the main reasons the KSCO community meets.  No tax payer money wasting if we all communicate, share and don't reinvent the wheel.

The Mardi Gras celebrations are on at the time too, and the day after KSCO-2012 there is a big parade in Pensacola if you can stay over. The hotels have agreed to extend the stay period to allow you to stay over if you wish.

Conference registration is now open. Please register to facilitate conference arrangements. You can pay by credit card, PayPal, or elect to pay by cheque (made payable to "IHMC") or cash at the door.

The conference fee of $100 (students $50) covers the costs of the meeting facilities, refreshments and lunches. A conference reception on Wednesday evening, and group dinner on Thursday evening is proposed also.
